I am saddened by the loss of Janet Wanja, the prolific volleyball queen whose strength, talent, and grace inspired so many. A key player for the national women’s volleyball team, the Malkia Strikers, served as their fitness trainer for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Janet’s exceptional skill was recognized when she was voted the best setter at the 2007 Women’s African Volleyball Championship. A Kenyan patriot and a true volleyball icon.
My heart goes out to her family and to all Kenyans during this incredibly difficult time. May her family find comfort in the beautiful memories she leaves behind and in the knowledge that her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
