Geoffrey Gitau Mwangi a transformative leader and dedicated peace patron, aspires to be the Governor of Nakuru in 2027. With a proven track record in public finance and health policy, he is recognized for his commitment to community cohesion and sustainable development. Geoffrey Gitau Mwangi’s career path at NHIF highlights his journey to top leadership positions; he has come a long way since starting as a junior accountant, rising through the ranks, and serving in the roles of Manager, Director of Finance before rising to be the NHIF CEO. During his tenure as CEO of NHIF from 2016 to 2018, he led a remarkable transformation in Kenya’s healthcare sector. Under his leadership, NHIF’s net assets grew from KES 49 billion to KES 87 billion—without increasing member contributions—enhancing the fund’s capacity and laying a solid foundation for Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Mwangi also spearheaded efforts to improve coverage, particularly for the informal sector and vulnerable groups, expanding access to healthcare for more Kenyans by establishing the Linda Mama and Edu-Afya initiatives demonstrating his strategic vision and collaborative approach.
